The video below is recorded on Jan 6, 2010 at Sabanci University as a part of my Master’s Thesis.

There are no hidden keyboards or any other controller involved! All the letters, correct and wrong, are spelled by thought.

Below is my previous attempt, where I forgot to implement the Enter key :) Although it’s quicker and error-free, I do not count this as a complete success as I still had to click Enter manually.

Here is the famous quote “Ne Mutlu Türküm diyene!” by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, founder of modern Turkey that praise Turkishness.

I wanted to type the url of this site again at the end, but I failed and typed Enter instead of the second /, therefore the post appeared thus in my Twitter and Facebook account :)

    Respect, great work. Really excellent

some curious questions though, as software is improving all the time,
Q1 – could the same be done with less sensors or
Q2 – the capture of differently captured P300 signals (by IR, ultra sound …)
Q3 – where should we place your work in the historical timeline of this mind or intention reading science.
Q4 – as we move from science fiction to science fact what is the next frontier

    kind greetings
    richard.

Thanks for checking it out :)

      1) I guess so, we just don’t have the necessary software algorithms yet. Ours just provide a performance this far.
      2) I’m not sure about this one, you can detect blood pressure, oxygen levels or chemical levels with other kinds of measurement systems; but they are (especially the contactless ones) hard to operate and lack in resolution.
      3) As we work out the details and operation of the brain, mind reading will be a reality; but that time may be so far away and may never come. State of the art technology gives you little insight about the proceedings of the brain and since P300 is not a direct outcome of what a person sees, hears, thinks etc. these are not even baby steps at all. But scientists are working hard on deciphering brain signals, decoding muscle movements, or even the basic thought of moving a muscle.
      4) Prosthetic devices will – or I hope them to be – the next step. Scientists are now capable of reading muscle movement commands from the brain or the ends of nerves. They are somewhat capable of deciphering signals at parts of the brain that operates a person’s vision. I guess the first next step will be prosthetic limbs for the handicapped.

      Take care :)
